Yulia is a Ukrainian composer and pianist currently based in Valencia and Barcelona, Spain. She is the winner of the 2024 SGAE Nova Autoria Award for Best Original Score at the Sitges International Film Festival, as well as the Best Original Score Award at the Sorihuela de Guadalimar Film Festival for the short film De-Sastre.
She began her career as a classical pianist in Ukraine and completed her studies at the Conservatory of Music in Valencia. She later earned a Master’s degree in Audiovisual Composition from the Conservatori in Catalonia.
In 2019, Yulia took part in the GEMS 2019 international program, where she studied under renowned Hollywood composers including Christopher Young, Garry Schyman, and Pete Anthony. During this time, she recorded her composition Missouri Sky with the Mad4Strings Orchestra in Madrid.
In 2021, she released her debut solo piano LP, Themes for Absent Pictures, followed by an electronic music EP in 2022 titled How to Name Colors, in collaboration with DJ Lucia Gea.
In 2022, Yulia collaborated with film composer Liam Bates. While completing her studies at ESMUC, she composed music for various short films and animations, including an episode of Una mà de contes on TV3. As part of her master’s final project, she scored the short films De-Sastre and Beauty, both performed and recorded by the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra.
Since 2022, Yulia has composed original scores for several short films showcased at film festivals across Spain. In 2024, she joined the Barcelona Film Composers Collective and continues working on new projects, including the documentary series Cirk, the feature documentary 3VR, and more.
